The task force will look at how green energy could be implemented in these areas and how people in the north west can take ownership of these resources.

Firstly, it will look at the availability of renewable resources in the area, such as the wind and sun to make electricity and grass to produce gas. The task force will also look at the possibility of community ownership.

Dale Vince said: “»Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp can power the whole of Britain by harnessing our wind, sun, waves and even grass. And we know it makes most sense for the people to own these resources, so that the benefits accrue to us as a country.

“The Green Energy Task Force is a first step towards that and doing so at a regional level - starting with the Greater Manchester and Liverpool regions. It will create a blue-print that can be replicated across the country, by all regions - in pursuit of net zero carbon in the 2030s.�

Both mayors echoed Dale’s excitement about this new task force and shared their enthusiasm for this new initiative.

Steve Rotheram, Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, said: “Someone has to take advantage of the green industrial revolution, so why shouldn’t it be our region? I want us to take advantage of as many of those well-paid jobs of the future as we can and I’m really looking forward to working with Dale and the task force to put our region front and centre."

Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham, said “Why not us, the people and businesses of the north-west - the stakeholders - make a play for this? Let the people be in control. So I'm delighted that Dale and the taskforce have agreed to take on this challenge and I'm really excited about what we’ll come up with."
