Bills into Mills

Watch our founder Dale Vince as he explains how we use your bills to create new green energy

What makes Ecotricity different from other energy companies is that we take the money we make from our customers bills and use it to build new forms of green energy.

»Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp call it Bills into Mills and it means that by paying your bill every month you’re helping fight climate change. Every new windmill or sun park we build reduces Britain’s reliance on fossil fuels to generate electricity.

How does Bills into Mills work?

While our competitors just buy and trade energy certificates, we also make the stuff that’s where our profits go. Isn’t it nice to know that with Ecotricity your money is being put to good use?

Switching to Ecotricity is one of the biggest things you can do to fight climate change.

It’s as simple as it is effective. »Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp’re committed to spending this money where it makes the most difference in fighting the climate crisis. »Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp only take on projects that can make a genuine contribution to ending fossil fuels in Britain.

What has Bills into Mills money been spent on?

Our customers bill money has built 24 wind parks across Britain, home to 74 windmills, generating green electricity day and night.

»Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp’ve already built three sun parks, with a combined capacity of 17.5MW, and we have another two in the works which will add a total of 16MW to our solar generation.

What are the next Bills into Mills projects?

Our new green gasmill is now pumping green gas, made from grass - into the local grid. »Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp’re also building a grid-scale battery that can store surplus renewable energy to boost supplies in times of peak demand.

Construction of our three windmills at Alveston just one example of how our customers bills are making a greener Britain.
The more people who join us, the more we can do to end fossil fuels

Climate Clock

The Climate Clock is a version of the Doomsday clock that has been running since 1947 - this tracks the risk of global man-made disaster, through man made technology (like nuclear weapons) - displaying the minutes and seconds left before midnight, when disaster strikes. The climate crisis is a small part of the calculations made. The climate clock uses a similar approach, but, focuses only on the climate crisis - which is the biggest and most urgent existential threat we face."The Climate Clock is a countdown to the biggest man-made disaster we face - but also a measure by which we can track our progress - moving from fossil to renewable energy. It shows we have no time to lose - the clock is ticking" Dale Vince, OBE.
