Fully Charged Live, the electric vehicle and renewable energy event of the year, took place at Silverstone earlier this month. Our IT Infrastructure Engineer, Gareth Edwards, manned Ecotricity鈥檚 display at the show, and talked EVs, sustainability, and the Nemesis, the UK鈥檚 fastest electric vehicle.

By Gareth Edwards

Fully Charged Live was a really good glimpse into what鈥檚 happening now in the world of electric vehicles and how we鈥檙e shaping up for a future Britain where EVs are the number one choice on our roads.聽

The Ecotricity stand was always busy over the course of the weekend, so we had the chance to engage with quite a crowd. 皇冠体育app had a huge mix of questions and feedback from the public about what we do, and about our plans for the future 鈥 people are really interested in what we鈥檙e doing to make sure EVs are the choice of travel for Britain.

皇冠体育app had lots of discussion about the uptake of electric vehicles, and it was great to hear that the popularity of EVs has increased. However, I was surprised by the amount of people who weren鈥檛 aware of the options to charge their EV at home.

Here鈥檚 our plug, if you鈥檒l excuse the pun 鈥 I really think Ecotricity鈥檚 Fully Charged bundle is the best deal for home charging at the moment: you can get a Rolec home charger installed for just 拢99, and you also benefit from half price use of the Electric Highway. People loved the idea of it.

I came across some really clever chargers at the event, including the Zappi, which (if you don鈥檛 have home battery storage), exports any unused home solar generation direct to your electric car. The result is a trickle charge (depending on conditions), resulting in emission free, zero cost driving for most days.

The event was a great showcase for EVs and demonstrated the amazing progress that鈥檚 been made in the availability of electric vehicle charging. It鈥檚 come a long way since we launched our Electric Highway in 2011. Our network now has 300 electricity pumps nationwide, so you can travel the length and breadth of Britain completely emissions free. 聽

Climate Clock

The Climate Clock is a version of the Doomsday clock that has been running since 1947 - this tracks the risk of global man-made disaster, through man made technology (like nuclear weapons) - displaying the minutes and seconds left before midnight, when disaster strikes. The climate crisis is a small part of the calculations made. The climate clock uses a similar approach, but, focuses only on the climate crisis - which is the biggest and most urgent existential threat we face."The Climate Clock is a countdown to the biggest man-made disaster we face - but also a measure by which we can track our progress - moving from fossil to renewable energy. It shows we have no time to lose - the clock is ticking鈥" Dale Vince, OBE.
