Happy Maki case study

Based in Brighton, is a small business with a mission to serve food that is good for the environment, good for your health and that makes people happy.

The company began in 2014 with the aim of raising awareness of fishing and ocean health issues, and developed alternative versions of sushi that contain no fish. They served food at festivals, where they had no way of controlling where their power came from.

Vegan energy

Now that it has a restaurant in Brighton, the business can choose its energy supplier and has opted for Ecotricity. Happy Maki is a vegan business, and thanks to Ecotricity its energy is 100% vegan as well. It specialises in rolled to order vegan sushi burritos and popular favourites include hoisin mock duck and teriyaki mock chicken.

Alongside having a sustainable green energy supplier, Happy Maki makes a donation to plant a tree with every sushi wrap it sells. But that’s not all. With every meal it sells, Happy Maki also makes a donation to Mary’s Meals, a programme that helps feed people in 46 countries around the world. Every wrap plants a tree and feeds a child.

Global environmental and social issues are at the forefront of Happy Maki’s business ethos, and Ecotricity fits in with the company’s vision of sustainability and ending world hunger.
