Case Study

Happy Maki case study

Based in Brighton, is a small business with a mission to serve food that is good for the environment, good for your health and that makes people happy.

The company began in 2014 with the aim of raising awareness of fishing and ocean health issues, and developed alternative versions of sushi that contain no fish. They served food at festivals, where they had no way of controlling where their power came from.

Vegan energy

Now that it has a restaurant in Brighton, the business can choose its energy supplier and has opted for Ecotricity. Happy Maki is a vegan business, and thanks to Ecotricity its energy is 100% vegan as well. It specialises in rolled to order vegan sushi burritos and popular favourites include hoisin mock duck and teriyaki mock chicken.

Alongside having a sustainable green energy supplier, Happy Maki makes a donation to plant a tree with every sushi wrap it sells. But that鈥檚 not all. With every meal it sells, Happy Maki also makes a donation to Mary鈥檚 Meals, a programme that helps feed people in 46 countries around the world. Every wrap plants a tree and feeds a child.

Global environmental and social issues are at the forefront of Happy Maki鈥檚 business ethos, and Ecotricity fits in with the company鈥檚 vision of sustainability and ending world hunger.

皇冠体育app were really happy to take Ecotricity on board to be our green energy supplier.

Climate Clock

The Climate Clock is a version of the Doomsday clock that has been running since 1947 - this tracks the risk of global man-made disaster, through man made technology (like nuclear weapons) - displaying the minutes and seconds left before midnight, when disaster strikes. The climate crisis is a small part of the calculations made. The climate clock uses a similar approach, but, focuses only on the climate crisis - which is the biggest and most urgent existential threat we face."The Climate Clock is a countdown to the biggest man-made disaster we face - but also a measure by which we can track our progress - moving from fossil to renewable energy. It shows we have no time to lose - the clock is ticking鈥" Dale Vince, OBE.
