Bonnet Island is one of my favorite venues and I am always excited when I have an upcoming event there! I was working with Cara & Stephen for about a year and there was alway a huge focus on decor. As a designer herself Cara knew what she wanted from day one. While the beach setting was essential for the wave riding groom and couple who spent summers in LBI, the luxury of Bonnet Island ( www.bonnetislandestate.com ) was also a big draw. While most brides go with a beach theme, Cara opted for a glamorous look that created a really unique feel amidst the ocean side estate. For this event everything was custom, from table linens and feature drinks to custom stationary and the wedding cake. The colors of the day were gold, deep plum and fuschia with a hint of lime green. For the linens we opted for a magenta crinkle taffeta ( www.clothconnection.com/shopexd.asp?id=26 ) that had a hint of both the plum and fuschia. The Centerpiecse were pure luxury consisting of Dutch Antique Hydrangeas, Peonies and Calla Lillies. The Flowers were set atop a gold mercury glass vase with gold dipped manzanita branches coming out of the top. To give the bling the bride was looking for we added draping jewels from the branches. Candle light is always a must but rather the go with basic votives we did a fancy glittered gold pillar candle placed on gold frames with lavender shimmer paper in them. The Frames were a last minute addition to the decor scheme. About a month before the wedding Cara came across some Photos in a magazine using empty frames as theme throughout. Even though it was last minute I didn’t want to disappoint. We not only added the frames to the table top but also had them as in accent everywhere throughout the event. The Ceremony featured Floral Wreaths set in gold frames and empty gold frames with suspended Calla Lillies on jeweled strands in the windows and on the mantle. The Show stopping piece was actually the wall that we built and covered in gorgeous silk fabric with framed cutouts that would be a photo op station. The guests and bridal party had a great time posing for pics and it created some really great memories. My favorite part of the decor was definitely creating the brides bouquet. I love making bridal bouquets and I always look for ways to make each and every one different and special. While Cara loved the look of one of the most popular combinations for May Brides, Peonies, Hydrangea and Callas, I knew a typical bouquet would not do. I found a beautiful ribbon in a off white taffeta embroidered with gold and silver flowers that matched her gown perfectly but that didn’t quite do the trick. Then I came across a stunning Phalaenopsis Orchid Plant that was off white with a magenta center and tint of gold. It was the perfect accent to bring this bouquet from a May Standard to a May Stunner!

As I was paging through the most recent issue of Brides ” the dress issue” my love for Vera Wang grew even stronger! Every girl dreams of a show stopping, breathtaking, fariytale wedding gown and who better to deliver then Vera! The fact that she is now designing a line for Davids Bridals giving all brides the chance to own a little piece of heaven really makes me smile. As I was flipping through the pages one dress in particular made me stop and stare and I knew right away it was one of her creations. It took me a second to realize it was from her collection for Davids. The dress was everything you would expect, elegant, romantic and ethereal all rolled together in a highly stylish yet understated mass of tulle! If you haven’t yet, see if Vera can make your dreams come true.

Who knew baby’s breath could be such a breath of fresh air! I absolutely love this look, it’s perfect for a wedding outdoors or in a tent. Set in a tent at Fernbrook Bed and Breakfast in Chesterfield, this look is ideal for this rustic setting on a spring day! The green and white color palette blends seamlessly with the nature filled backdrop. The look is fresh and modern with a touch of whimsy. I am big on first impressions so I love the fact that guests are greeted by abundant wreath of hydrangeas and sweeping ribbons, a welcoming touch! When guests enter the tent they are greeted by breathtaking centerpieces of massed out baby’s breath in a 3 foot tall glass vases accented with sparkling jewels. The way the baby’s breath is used truly gives this traditional bloom with a bad rep new life! . This particular centerpiece is on an oval table so to balance out the center florals 2 large hurricane lamps with green pillar candles flank it on each side. The tablecloths and polka dot napkins were actually provided by Fernbrook who has there own stock of great linens and décor items. The details that I think really make this tabletop special are the Garden Collection China and Tea Cups by Party Rental LTD. The single rose placed in each cup is also a super sweet accent! The cake designed by Main Street Catering is subtle and petite but makes a big statement. The Bride wore an elegant sweeping gown with simple lines to keep it formal but not fussy. I also love the simple side swept hair. The Bouquet was a simple array of seasonal flowers in white and green accented by a dangling gold chain. This look is unexpected and refreshingly perfect!

I am working with a ton of great brides this year and I love the fact that they are risk takers! The traditional looks are going to be few and far between this season making way for some ultra modern and hip looks that are sure to change the way you feel about typical wedding flowers. Here are some of my fave looks that I am working on for one of my Ashford Estate Brides.

If you love Anthropologie like me, you’ll be thrilled to hear they just launched their newest concept, BHLDN on Valentines Day. BHLDN ( beholden) a line of wedding gowns, shoes and bridal accessories is perfect for the anthro bride who is described as ”nostalgic romantic, a lady with a twist, a neo-sophisticate or la bohemienne.” The gowns are light and airy with a touch of whimsy and a sort of delicate elegance! They definitely make a statement but in a chic understated kind of way. My take on the BHLDN bride is a bride that is an artist, a free spirit and someone who has a taste for the unexpected, they want to enjoy the day an feel beautiful without feeling like their on a pedestal. Check it out for yourself and see if you are an Anthro Bride!

Jersey Shore bands really know how to get a crowd moving. They are high energy, sound amazing when it comes to current hits and put on a spectacular show! Whether they are singing through the crowd or doing mid air splits jumping off the stage they are sure to WOW your guests with a concert experience. What to know about Jersey Shore Bands? For one they are not cheap, they can range from $8 – $15,000…Holiday Weekends are the most expensive. Also they play in sets, typically 2 1 hour or 3 40 minute sets so its imperative to have a DJ to play in the interim as well as to handle all the announcements and mc’ing duties. Also you have to work closely with your venue to get the proper timing down so the guests can fully enjoy the band sets. I get really excited when these guys are playing, the crowd goes wild and its sure to be successful evening on the dance floor.

Here are 2 of my favorites, Mr. Green Jeans and The Nerds

This time of year always makes me think of the amazing wedding I did in Austria a few years ago for the Style Networks Series ” Married Away.” When people think of destination weddings so often beaches come to mind…Winter destination weddings can also be a great idea and a truly romantic experience…

I do in the Austrian Alps

This fun loving, adventure seeking New Jersey couple decided to say their “I Do’s” in the magical setting of the Austrian Alps. The Hoteldorf Grüner Baum set on the edge of Hohe Tauern National Park nestled in a valley of the mountainous region boasted the untouched beauty of the land and a rare and charming display of local culture!

The wedding was a weeklong trip for the couple and their guests. It started in Munich were the guest took in the sights and paid homage to local traditions including spending an evening at local Beer Garden! From Munich the group traveled to the Hoteldorf Gruner Baum in Bad Gastein, Austria where they were greeted with a champagne toast. First on the list, a meet and greet over mulled wine in the rustic lobby bar. The next two days were spent shopping, hiking enjoying the sites and skiing the Alps!

At last the wedding day arrived and I worked closely with the hotel staff, to not only honor the local traditions, but also to include all of the things important to a traditional American wedding. When the two cultures merged the outcome was a spectacular event unique unto itself. The day started bright and early at 8 am when the ladies began massages, hair, makeup and nails at the on site spa. From there the girls adorned their wedding finery in the charming suites of the hotel. A morning ceremony was followed by a horse and buggy ride for a champagne toast at the waterfall in town. Everyone then headed back to the Gruner Baum for the cake cutting ceremony and hot cocoa by the fire. After this respite all the guests gathered outside to load onto horse drawn carriages for a 45 minute tour through the national reserve up to a chalet for a treat of mulled wine and cured meats and cheese! Upon arriving back at the hotel a few hours later the guests had time to freshen up before dinner where all the wedding traditions took place and entertainment was provided by an austrian trio. When dinner wrapped up everyone moved to the rustic lounge setting for cocktails and dancing! The official end time on record for this event was quoted at 4 am! It was quite the experience.
